About Hvar
Hvar is the sunniest Croatian island, and it is probably the most famous one. Although today mostly jet set and party destination, Hvar has a rich history. The island was inhabited in prehistoric times, and its most famous colonizers were the Greeks who named the island Pharos, which if translated would mean "a lighthouse"

1. The Fortica Fortress of Hvar (Španjola) - was built at the beginning of the 16th century and reconstructed in 1579. Today the fortress has a collection of amphoras and other exhibits dating back to the antiqe and medieval times. Apart from the experience of original architecture, you can enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the town of Hvar, its surroundings and the Pakleni Islands.
2. Petar Hektorovic's fortress - the most famous building in the Stari Grad. A beautiful view and fish ponds and doves are some of the reasons you should visit it.
3. The Stari Grad plain on Hvar - has been on UNESCO's list since 2008 and represents the best preserved ancient Greek landscape in the Mediterranean with the same cultures (mostly grapes and olives) that have been produced for 2400 years.
4. The Hvar Benedictine monasteries – are best known for their tradition of making lace made of agave. Lace-making skills have been transferred to generations within the monastery, and since 2009 they have been included in UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.
5. Traffic & parking - If you plan to visit the island of Hvar expect crowds in the ferry port. Due to the large number of vehicles in the summer, it is harder to find a parking place in the centers of the cities of the island of Hvar, so before leaving, make sure to check the location of all parking lots in the surroundings of the place where you want to go.
